1939 - 2014
Harry S. Marsh RM1(SS) USN (Ret.) born the second of five children to Harry and Lillian Marsh of Kentucky, was born April 13, 1939 and died March 22, 2014 in Pensacola.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Barbara Marsh; three children, Stephen, Vicky and Deborah; two grandchildren, Staff Sergeant Jaimie Fulp, USAF and James Frank; two brothers, Walter of Pensacola and Jerry of Kentucky; and by the three children of his beloved, departed sister, Vivian Sue Koenig; Suzanne Wiggly, Karen Masterson, and John Koenig of Indiana.
Harry was a pillar of his church, Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, where he praised God frequently in his wonderful baritone voice, and regaled his fellow parishioners with his stories. His church family will never see his like again.
He was a Cold War Warrior in the United States Navy as a Radioman. He served in ships, nuclear-powered submarines, and shore stations around the world from 1958 through 1981, beginning and ending in Naval Air Stations in Pensacola, and including Okinawa, Iceland, and Guam. He was particularly proud to be a qualified submariner participating in 6 patrols in the nuclear fleet ballistic submarine the USS Grant (SSBN 631) and in several deployments in the Navy's most highly decorated submarine - a nuclear fast attack submarine - the USS Parche (SSN 683). After his retirement from active duty in 1981, he worked as a civil servant at NAS Pensacola until his final retirement in 2004.
The visitation will be held on Thursday, March 27, 2014 from 5pm to 7pm at Oak Lawn Funeral Home 619 New Warrington Rd Pensacola, FL 32506. A reception will be held at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church on Friday, March 28, 2014 at 11am. The funeral service, officiated by Father Bob Graves at the church, will follow the reception at noon, then procession to Barrancas National Cemetery at 1:30pm for a 2pm interment with full military honors.
