William Gene Winter was born February 14, 1927 in Webster City, Iowa to Wray and Bade (Read) Winter. He grew up and received his education in Webster City and Jewell, Iowa. Upon graduation William enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving in the Seabees U.S. Naval Construction Force. This was something William took great pride in and was very proud of all military members.
On January 28, 1949 in Webster City, William was united in marriage to Faye Eloise Meyers. The couple made their home in Ankeny and was blessed with two daughters; Janis and Lynda. William was employed as an Accountant for various companies around Des Moines during his career.
William had a passion for flying and held his private pilot’s license for many years. He was also a member of the EAA and AOPA, both aviation memberships. During retirement William took great joy in traveling, gardening, and treasured his time with his grandchildren and great children who all held a special place in his heart.
Survivors include his friend and companion of 20 years, Betty Prather; daughter, Janis Faye Winter; grandsons, Keith (Dawn) Johnson, Scott (Mandi Adair) Johnson, William (Jenna Hall) Loos, and Anthony Loos; great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Vanessa, Brittany, Noah, and Emerson; and two sisters, Betty Wing and Bonnie Ingertson both of California. He was preceded in death by his wife, Faye; and daughter, Lynda.
