Dean Alan Anderson, 80, of Pueblo, Colo., and Edelweiss Mountain, S.D., passed away the same way he lived his life, on his own terms; peacefully and at home with his family by his side, on Sunday, March 30, 2014. Dean was born on Feb. 11,1934, in Pierre, S.D. He was the only child of Alvin and Minnie Anderson. He graduated from Huron High School in South Dakota but not before eloping with Katherine Mary Hines. And after graduation, he moved to Pueblo, Colo., where he began his career as a lineman for the power company. His career was put on hold when he enlisted in the USMC and was sent to Korea. After his return, he resumed his career and began his lifelong affiliation with his union, IBEW-12. Dean’s career was not only fulfilling but is prolific in its entirety. His natural talents and his union took him all over the country working. He worked in New York City on both towers at the World Trade Center and Pier 17 and worked at power plants all over this country. He was at NORAD, the Air Force Academy and his favorite job working on the Arkansas Frying Pan Project in the tunnels near Pagosa Springs — but his career began laying lines mile after mile beginning in the streets of Pueblo so every time you find yourself on Northern or Prairie and so many others in between, look at the line and think of Dean. Dean lost his high school sweetheart, wife and mother of his six children, Katherine, in 1977. They had endured the loss of their infant son, Hal, in 1959 and later Dean lost his daughter, Deanna, as well as his beloved parents and many, many dear friends and family members. After 27 years, Dean finally found and married Betty L. Colby, who quickly brought light, joy, laughter and the joy of traveling and fellowship back into his life. Dean is survived by his wife, Betty L. Colby; and his children, Duane (Mike) of Sheridan, Wyo.; his daughter, Julie Anderson, Shannon (Don) Anderson- Skinner and their children, Kalhoon and Klancy of Pueblo; Glenn (Jana) and their children, Reagan and Dean Anderson of Toronto, Canada, Scott (Tracy) Anderson of Colorado Springs, stepchildren, Doug and Keith Colby, Marlo (Derek) Vigil and their wonderful children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; as well as many wonderful friends and family, both in Pueblo and South Dakota. There will be a celebration of Dean’s life starting with the viewing from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 3 at T.G. McCarthy Funeral Home. His service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 4, at Family Worship Center. Friends will be received at IBEW Local 12 Hall after the service. Memorials may be made to Dean’s favorite charity, St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Online condolences at www.tgmccarthy.com. Arrangements by TG McCarthy Funeral Home.
