Thomas was born October 29, 1923 in Barstow California to Tomàs and Consuelo Cabrera. He entered into rest on March 29, 2014. Thomas grew up in Colton, California and lived in Rialto, California since 1963. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Cecilia, daughters Cynthia and Max Avilez, Anna Lemos, Rebecca and Tony Moreno, Kathy and Michael Ornelas, Maria (Teri) and Patrick Daghlian, and brother Cristobal Guerrero. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Richard Cabrera Sr. and his wife Alma, brothers Nick, Nacho, and Lalo Cabrera, Carmen Guerrero, and sisters Lorenza Mendez, Mollie Gonzales, Frenchie Sanchez, Leonides Flores and Monie Gamez.
Thomas served our country during World War II in the Army 821st Tank Destroyer Battalion and was wounded in Saint-Lo Normandy France. When he returned from service he attended Woodbury University in Los Angeles where he received a degree in accounting. Thomas began his 35 year career with the California State Board of Equalization in 1947 and retired as a Supervising Field Auditor. During his lifetime Thomas volunteered his time to many youth and community organizations.
Visitation will be held Sunday, April 6, 2014 from 4-8pm at Montecito Memorial Park and Mortuary in Colton CA. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 7, 2014 at San Salvador Catholic Church in Colton CA. Burial will follow at Montecito Memorial Park.
