Welsh - Darel Raymond Derouen, 66, of Welsh, passed away at 5:05am on Thursday, April 3, 2014 at his home, surrounded by his family.
He was born on November 21, 1947 in Welsh, LA to Ernest and Lillian (Ogea) Derouen Sr. They preceded him in death.
Surviving is his wife, Linda (Coffman) Derouen, one daughter, Dionne Derouen (and Fiancé Lloyd Butler) of Welsh, two sons, Derrell "Bull" (wife Bridget) Derouen Jr. of Gueydan, LA and William “Joey” Derouen (and Fiancé Daphne Patrick) of Lake Charles. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Hallie, Raven, Darrell III, Deontre, Bryceton, Abrianna, Devanta, and William Jr, and three brothers, Andrew Derouen, Paul (Sue) Derouen and Rodney (Joyce) Derouen.
Darel served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in 1973. He worked in the parts department for Truck and Trailer Equipment for over 30 years before retiring in 2004. He was a member of the V.F.W Post in Welsh for over 20 years and served as a post commander, was a founder of the Veterans Monument in Welsh and was instrumental in the start of the Welsh Museum and bingo in Welsh.
Visitation will be on Friday, April 4, 2014 from 4:00pm to 9:00pm at Hixson Funeral Home in Welsh, with a rosary service beginning at 6:00 pm. Visitation will resume on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at 9:00am until the start of the funeral at 10:00am at the funeral home. The Rev. Pat Deshotel will officiate.
