Mary Belle Seeley was born on August 4, 1926 in the small settlement of Deora, Colorado. Her mother was Mary Edna Minner and father was Benjamin Fredrick Seeley who were married in 1913. Mary grew up with 6 other siblings on the family farm.
After attending a local 1-room elementary school she attended a boarding academy, Campion Academy, in Loveland, CO. She followed her brother Jewell to La Sierra University. While there she met Floyd Shepard Brauer and they were married on July 5, 1948 in Glendale, CA. She received her RN from Loma Linda University in 1949. She worked as an RN at the White Memorial Hospital until 1951 when her daughter Charlotte Elaine was born.
In 1953 Floyd was drafted into the Air Force and ended up stationed in Japan until returning stateside in 1955. Stanley Douglas was born in 1955. After additional residency training for Floyd in San Francisco and Georgetown University they settled down in 1957 in Modesto, CA. My mother was active in the local church, the academy school association, and raising 2 children.
My parents moved to Loma Linda in 1972. Mary was active in the Loma Linda University Medical Axillary and served as President 1991-1992. She started a business called Maridots, which sold China and gifts. Mary and Floyd loved traveling, especially with good friends and family. Their travels covered most of the world.
After her husband died in 2005, Mary continued to live at her home in Loma Linda with her beloved German Sheppard dog, Annie. Dick Balkins and my mother rekindled a friendship about a year after their spouses died and both families greatly enjoyed seeing their parent’s friendship. After suffering several strokes in the past year, Mary passed away at home with her family on April 5, 2014.
Her son, Stanley Brauer, his wife Carol, granddaughter Laura who is married to Dustin Herrmann, and grandson, Max survive her. Her 6 adult siblings, her husband Floyd Brauer, and daughter Charlotte Schultz pre-deceased her in death.
Mary Belle Brauer will have a graveside service on Monday, April 14, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Montecito Memorial Park in Colton, California.
