Billie Faye Swann was born in Guilford County on June 23, 1934 to the late Willie Nathaniel Kivett and Annie Thelma Gregory Kivett, and resided most of her life in Greensboro. After retiring with her husband to Oak Island, NC, in 1993, they returned back to the Greensboro area in 2013 where she lived out her remaining life, at “home”. She was a lifelong homemaker, well known for her famous desserts like Coconut Cake, Peter Paul Mound Cake, Cherry Cheesecake and her Heavenly Homemade Doughnuts. Billie was very gifted and taught herself how to decorate cakes, a talent she passed down to her daughters. She made many beautiful and artistic decorated cakes throughout her life. She was also a gifted seamstress, making curtains and chair covers for every room in the house and even a wedding dress or two. Later in life, she designed and crocheted a nose warmer that was very popular among family and friends and she crocheted her own bonnets that she wore all the time. While her health was good, she loved to cook and was a wonderful hostess whose desserts and dishes pleased many people and were much sought after at church dinners and family functions. She suffered the last twenty-five years of her life with severe rheumatoid arthritis, but she never let it get her down and was always a trooper. At the end, she was ready to meet her Lord and Savior and to sing as she entered Heaven.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Bob Swann of the home; daughters, Sandy Cantliffe (Bob), Pam Ballard (Jeff Hedrick, fiance), and Teresa Hodges (Ben); sister, Peggy Campbell; a dear cousin, Betty Hartman (Wade); five grandsons, Chad Ballard (Dawn), Benjamin and Brandon Hodges, and Richard and Scott Cantliffe; one granddaughter, Stephanie Cantliffe; and five great-grandchildren, Scotty Cantliffe, Haleigh, Chase, Lexie, and Chance Ballard.
Memorial contributions may be made to Glenola Baptist Church, 8330 US Hwy. 311, Archdale, NC 27263.
