She was born October 6, 1924, in Troutman and was the daughter of the late Fred Jasper and Elsie Plyler Murdock. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Bryan Andrews, and a brother, Conda Murdock.
Phoebe and Tom were married on July 19, 1946, and were longtime residents of Statesville until relocating to Grace Ridge in December 2003 and donated land to the City of Statesville for the city’s Greenway system. They were members of Broad Street United Methodist Church where they were active in the Christian Family Class and enjoyed their many friends there. They also enjoyed ballroom dancing and were members of the Rhythm Dance Club. Phoebe was especially fond of her time spent swimming at the Statesville YMCA and was always appreciative of the friendships forged there.
She is survived by a daughter, Laura Andrews Mitchell (Everette) of Dover, New Hampshire; two sons, Douglas Bryan Andrews of Greensboro and William Bryan Andrews (Kathryn) of Statesville; three granddaughters, Sydney Andrews Wittman (Cody) of Greensboro, Julia Ross Andrews and Elizabeth Kathryn Andrews both of Statesville; two sisters, Lois Murdock Tomlinson of Davidson and Vallie Murdock Sharpe of Kettering, Ohio; a sister-in-law, Betty Jean Lazenby Murdock of Statesville; and several beloved nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 PM Thursday, April 17, 2014, at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home.
Memorial service celebrating Phoebe’s life will be held at 3:00 PM, Friday, April 18, 2014, at Broad Street United Methodist Church and the family will speak with friends in the church fellowship hall following the service. A private family burial will take place at Oakwood Cemetery.
