A celebration of Sally’s life will be held at First Lutheran Church at 1:30 p.m. Friday 4/25/14. A visitation will be held Thursday 4/24/14 from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. at Hanes Lineberry N. Elm Chapel.
Sally was born in Reading, PA on March 20, 1951 to the late Mary and Donald Kaufmann.
Sally graduated from Indiana University of PA. Following graduation and marriage to Tom, she was a successful teacher and gymnastics coach in PA, MD and VA. This would serve her well after the family moved to Greensboro in 1984 where Sally recognized the need for a children’s developmental program. Sally proceeded to open Tumblebee’s Ultimate Gym. Thousands of Greensboro children have attended Tumblebee’s over the years benefitting from gymnastics, dance, rock wall climbing, cheerleading and learning to be “Bee the Best You Can”. In addition, Sally mentored many coaches over the years to help them maximize their potential as coaches and human beings.
Sally was a friend to many along the way. Once you were befriended by Sally, that friendship would last a lifetime. Sally’s best attributes were that she saw the best in everyone and she seemed to understand life better than most. She was always ready to listen to others and offer her thoughts on how each person could resolve their life issues. She made everyone she came into contact with a better person.
Sally will always be remembered for her ever-present smile; her positive attitude; her favorite song, Louis Armstrong’s “What A Wonderful World” (she did a lot to make it that way); and, her conviction that she measured her life by the amount of love that she gave and received. God Bless this wonderful woman.
Surviving are her husband Thomas Newton of the home; son Michael of Raleigh; son Matthew and his wife Kelly of Raleigh; brothers Randy and his wife Sue and Rick and his wife Linda of Camp Hill, PA; sister-in-law Barbara Pyle and her husband Fred of Denver; brother-in-law Barry and his wife Nancy of York, PA; brother-in-law Jeff and his wife Kryssie of Raleigh and many loved nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank all the wonderful nurses who attended to Sally both at Wesley Long Oncology and Hospice of the Piedmont. In addition, this journey changed many people’s lives and spirituality. A special blessing goes to the Prayer Warriors from Grace Church in High Point that provided healing prayer, hope, strength, and peace. In addition, Pastor Jay Hilbinger of First Lutheran Church Greensboro provided meaningful fellowship and support throughout this trying time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any of those organizations. First Lutheran donations should be directed to the Children’s Ministries Fund.
