He was born on September 11, 1932 in Austin, Texas to Emma Lee Powell and Leroy Sorrells Sr. At an early age he gave his life to Christ and was baptized at Goodwill Baptist Church and in later years he became a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church in Austin, Texas until his health declined.
During his high school years at Anderson High, he was an active member of the varsity football team and a band member playing the saxophone. He enjoyed playing and watching baseball on his free time as well as going fishing and watching his favorite sports football and basketball. After graduating high school he attended Huston-Tillotson University. In 1952, he proudly enlisted and served in the US Navy, received the National Defense Service Medal before being honorably discharged and was a Korean War Veteran.
Clarence had a variety of skilled professions under many companies such as Centex Concrete Inc., University of Texas and plenty more. He also was an active member of the Mason Lodge in Austin.
Clarence Eddie Sorrells, Sr. was preceded in death by his parents; his two children, Carolyn Ann Sorrells and Clarence Eddie Sorrells, Jr.; a brother Leroy Sorrells, Jr.; and his beloved former spouse Bettye Jo Wick-Sorrells.
He leaves to cherish his memories to his loving children: his two daughters and two sons, Vickie Elaine Curry, Terrance Leroy Sorrells, Sr., James Gregory Sorrells, Sr., and Sherree Sorrells Gantt (Leonard); 13 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and a host of cousins, friends and care givers.
