WILLIAM E. “ED” BALLARD age 93 of Knoxville, passed away Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at Parkwest Hospital. He was an Air Force Veteran of WWII receiving 12 awards while serving in the 370 2nd Air Force Unit. He was a member of the 97th Bomber Group and an avid hiker, gardener and loved all animals. Ed retired from Mead Corporation after 28 years of service and worked 13 years at A&S Building Systems and First Tennessee Bank as a guard. He was preceded in death by his son, Boyd Anthony (Tony) Lane; parents, Nessie and Nellie Ballard; 5 brothers and 2 sisters. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Roena Ballard; granddaughter, Sarah Clark and fiance’ Brent Sadler; great-grandson, Peyton Clark; several nieces and nephews. Family and friends will meet at 1:15 pm Monday at East Tennessee Veterans Cemetery, 2200 Gov. John Sevier Hwy., Knoxville, TN 37920 for a 1:30 pm Honorary Military Service. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, May 6th at 7 pm at West Congregation of Jehovah’s Witness at 1403 Andes Rd. with minister, Dan Hostetler officiating.
