Naples, Fl – George Edwin DeShaw of Dennis, MA, and Naples, FL, passed away unexpectedly at home on April 24th with his beloved wife of 57 years, Mary (Main) DeShaw by his side.
Born June 24, 1933 in Framingham, MA, he was the son of the late Gordon E and Sarah H (Cotter) DeShaw. He attended St. Stephens School and was a graduate of Framingham High School (1951) and Northeastern University (1966) earning a BS in engineering. He enlisted in the US Army where he proudly served from 1953 to 1955.
In 1956 he started his long career with New England Telephone in crafts at a Framingham office. Over time he worked his way into an engineering position then moved into management. He enjoyed a rotational assignment with AT&T in New York City and then in Basking Ridge, New Jersey. In 1990 he proudly retired as a Division Manager after a 34 year career with Verizon.
George split his retirement between Naples, FL and Dennis, MA where he enjoyed golfing, boating and fishing with family and friends. He generously donated his time to many different organizations including: Friends of Dennis Senior Citizens, Dennis Senior Men’s Golf League, and the Naples Heritage golf community.
George’s greatest joys in life were his family and his grandchildren. He was extremely involved in each of their lives, attending many events and celebrating their accomplishments.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his son Paul DeShaw and his wife Cheryl, of Danville, NH, daughter Laurie Gallagher and her husband Stewart, of Duxbury, MA, and daughter Susan Wester and her husband Rick, of Holliston, MA. He was the much loved grandfather of Kevin, Morgan and Cara DeShaw, Emily and Erin Gallagher, and Ricky Wester. He is also survived by his brother and best friend John DeShaw and his wife Patricia of Dennis, MA & Bonita Springs, FL, and several nieces and nephews. George was predeceased by his infant daughter Nancy, siblings David, Gordon, Mary and Robert, and nephew John M. DeShaw Jr.
Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the Doane Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 729 Rt 134 South Dennis, MA on Tuesday May 6th from 4-7 PM. A funeral Mass will be held May 7th at Our Lady of the Cape Church, 468 Stony Brook Rd, Brewster, MA at 11 AM. Internment at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA, will be private and at a later date.
