Mr. Muschamp was born on June 12, 1934, in Rome, the son of the late Herbert Muschamp and Elsie Christine Dempsey Muschamp. He was a graduate of the University of North Carolina where he played football and received his Master’s Degree. He then received his six-year Certificate in Education from the University of Georgia. He taught history and served as head football coach at East Rome High School and then at Darlington as principal of the Middle School. He moved to Gainesville, FL, as Headmaster of Oak Hall School and then back to Rome in 1986 as principal of the Darlington Lower School. He retired in 1999 and moved to Mentone, AL, and was a member of the Cloudland Presbyterian Church. He was an avid reader and loved his family.
Survivors include his wife, Sarah Jane Hodges Muschamp; three sons, Mike Muschamp, Atlanta, Pat (Sally) Muschamp, Rome, and Will (Carol) Muschamp, Gainesville, FL; four grandchildren, Jordan Muschamp, Robert Muschamp, Jackson Muschamp and Whit Muschamp; and one sister, Judy Muschamp Silvey, Carrollton.
The family received friends at Daniel’s Funeral Home on Sunday, May 4, 2014, from 1 until 3 p.m. and then proceeded to Cloudland Presbyterian Church, 140 Partain Rd., Menlo, GA 30731, for a memorial service at 5 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. Roger Kvam officiating. Interment was at the Cloudland Presbyterian Church.
