HICKORY – Oie Lee Tolbert Jr., 84, passed away on Saturday May 3, 2014 at Frye Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.Oie was born on November 8, 1929 in Burke County to the late Oie Lee Tolbert Sr. and Emma Keller Tolbert. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother Ralph Tolbert, and sisters, Mary Price and Nina Sheffield. Oie had worked for the old Harper Motor Company and retired from Armstrong Ford after fifty years of service in parts and service. Oie was a lifelong member of Winklers Grove Baptist church, where he was a past Deacon, usher, and greeter. Oie was a US Army veteran having served during the Korean War. Mr. Tolbert loved woodworking.Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Marie Miller Tolbert, a son, Olan Tolbert and wife Christi, grandson, Dustin Lee Tolbert, and a sister, Margaret Sperling, all of Hickory. The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 6th, 2014 from 6 P.M. to 8 P. M. at Hickory Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 7th, 2014, at 2 P. M. at Winklers Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Dale Faulkenbury and Rev. Paul Deal officiating. Mr. Tolbert will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Pallbearers will be Gary Miller, Scott Lail, Josh Lail, Danny McNeely, Kyle Killian, Shawn Bradley, and Keith Hamby.
