He was born on Aug. 11, 1923 in Danville, IL, the son of the late Charles Wilbur and Marie (Young) Mayfield. He married Alice Bennett in 1948 in Danville, IL and she preceded him in death in 1994.
Bill served in the U.S. Army during the WWII era, attaining the rank of 1st Lieutenant in the 63rd Infantry Division. He retired from Osco Drug as a District Manager.
He is survived by 4 children, Vicki (husband Robert Bianchi) Mayfield of Chicago, IL, Terry (wife Susan) Mayfield of Lincolnshire, IL, Connie (husband Bruce Meyer) Mayfield of Chisago City, MN, and Mark (partner Jay Phelps) Mayfield of Nashville, TN; a grandson David (wife Lisa) Mayfield of Seattle, WA, a sister Marilyn Greear of Missouri, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Besides his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a sister Margaret Rohrer.
Services are under the direction of Bisch Funeral Home West, 2931 S. Koke Mill Rd., Springfield where visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 14, from 10 to 11:30 am. A private interment at Oak Ridge Cemetery will be held.
Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
