The family of Elies "Tibby" Thibodeaux sadly announces the death of a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Tibby Thibodeaux, age 92, passed away suddenly on Saturday, May 10, 2014.
Born on January 27, 1922 in Morse, Louisiana, he grew up on the family farm. At the beginning of World War II, he entered the Coast Guard. He served in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters from 1942 to 1945 as a radar man on the USS General Scott. During the war years he met the love of his life, Louise King, in San Francisco. They married in 1946 and moved to Lake Charles where he completed Business College in 1947.
Tibby was a lumberman, residential home designer, and realtor. He was employed for many years and in many capacities by Powell Lumber Company and WKN Real Estate. He served as Secretary/Treasurer of the Southwest Louisiana Lumber Dealers Association. He also served many years as the Treasurer of the Southwest Louisiana Board of Realtors. Tibby was active for many years with the fat stock show and rodeo and was a past President of the Southwest District Fat Stock Show and Rodeo.
He was active in the PTA serving as president of the Fourth Ward PTA and on the committee to merge the Lake Charles and Calcasieu Parish school systems. He served on Scout Troop Committee for Scout Troop 20 and served as president of the Lake Charles High Band Booster Club in 1969.
Tibby was an active member of First Baptist Church of Lake Charles where he served as general Sunday School Secretary for twelve years and on the Board of Ushers for 12 years. He was a mason, and a 32nd degree KCCH of the Scottish rite. He was a past master of Rudolph Krause Lodge #433. He was a Shriner and a member of Habibi Temple. Tibby Thibodeaux had a love of music and played the organ and his French accordion at his church and at Masonic functions.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Louise King Thibodeaux of Lake Charles; his son, Terry Thibodeaux and wife Martina Thibodeaux of Lake Charles; his granddaughter, Charlene Aguillard and husband Robert Aguillard of Lake Charles; his grandson, Steven Thibodeaux and wife Kristy Thibodeaux of Austin, TX; two grandchildren, Alex and Drew Aguillard of Lake Charles; and a brother, Nickrest Thibodeaux of Crowley.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Deluce and Elodie Thibodeaux; and his sisters, Nedia Thibodeaux Myers and Vivian Thibodeaux Duhon.
Visiting hours will be observed from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 and from 9:00 a.m. until time of services on Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at the funeral home. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 14, 2014 with Masonic rites to follow at Hixson Funeral Home of Lake Charles. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
