Walter Pilgram, Jr., 92, of Long Mott, passed away Tuesday, May 13, 2014. Walter was born July 25, 1921, to the late Walter and Elsie Fiek Pilgram. He was a graduate of the University of Texas with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. After college he worked briefly in New Jersey and then returned home to work at the family owned Long Mott Gin where he managed operation, maintenance and improvements until its closure in 1974. He then worked for Brown & Root Construction at the Union Carbide plant until his retirement. He served as commissioner and chairman for the West Side Calhoun County Navigation District for 40 years. He was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Walter is survived by his wife, Ann Pilgram; daughter, Cindy Mueller and husband, Mark of Port Lavaca; son, Tommy Pilgram and wife, Teresa of Port Lavaca; grandchildren, Kristen Mueller, Zachary Pilgram and Brandt Pilgram; and great-granddaughter, Makenna Dunagan.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his dear sister, Evelyn Brady.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 pm on Thursday, May 15, 2014, at Rosewood Funeral Chapels.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Friday, May 16, 2014, at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Barney Matocha and Lay Minister Don Angerstein officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery
Pallbearers will be Zachary Pilgram, Brandt Pilgram, Kyle Brady, Curtis Connally, Jack Campbell and Harold Evans.
Honorary pallbearers will be William G. Wheeler, and longtime co-workers and friends, Dinnie Billings, Felix Barrientes and the late Fidencio Morales.
The family would like to offer heartfelt thanks for the care, compassion and love for our dad provided by all of his caregivers and especially to Lucy Garza, Joni Rush, Ella Moore and Virginia Morales.
