Amy Doris Bell, 33, of Dennis, Texas, daughter of Ellen and Larry Bell of Midland, Texas, was called home to our Heavenly Father unexpectedly on Friday, May 16, 2014. Amy was born in Midland, Texas on October 4, 1980. She attended Trinity School of Midland from K-3 through her graduation in 1999. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where she was active in the youth and mission programs of the church. She continued her education at Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas. In May 2004, she received a Bachelor's Degree in Social and Human Services. After her graduation, she accepted a job with the Texas Department of Child Protective Services, where she fulfilled a lifelong dream of serving children.
In 2008, Amy made a career change and took her horse riding life to a new level. She became the manager of the Bell family horse operation, Kalpowar Quarter Horses, in Dennis, Texas. She also had established a career as a Lead Stylist with Stella and Dot Jewelry. An accomplished horse woman, Amy started her show career learning to ride English at the age of nine, on her horse Hobby Five. She showed hunter jumpers throughout her youth career, earning two trips to the American Quarter Horse Association Youth World Finals.
In 1999 after graduating from high school, she changed riding disciplines and began showing cutting horses and reined cow horses. Throughout her show career Amy has won numerous national and world show awards in all her riding disciplines. She began in the AQHA program on her beloved gelding, New Found Money (Cash). As an amateur she won several championships on her reined cow horse, No Blu Aqui (Spanky) including multiple national titles. In cutting horse competition she has won numerous titles and championships on her AQHA World Champion cutting mare, Girl Like That (Girl) and other beloved horses.
Amy was an adventurer. She had a true zest for life. She loved riding, hunting, sightseeing and traveling the world. Most importantly she was a lover of her four-legged friends, her nieces and nephews, and her family and multitudes of friends. Her love, humor, friendship and smile will be missed around the world.
Philanthropy was an important part of Amy’s life. She established the Amy Doris Bell Donor Fund at the Permian Basin Area Foundation and supported numerous agencies who provide health and wellness for children throughout the United States and the world. She helped fund numerous projects of Child Fund International, Feed the Children, and had a beloved sponsored child in Zimbabwe. She was a member of the Dallas Safari Club, Safari Club International, the National Cutting Horse Association, the National Reined Cow Horse Association, and the American Quarter Horse Association and served as an Ambassador of the American Quarter Horse Foundation.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents; Roy Parks, Jr., Bill B. Faudree, Doris and Joe Bell, Harriett Faudree Dublin, and her cousin Kristen Jane Faudree.
She is survived by her parents Ellen and Larry Bell; brother, Matthew Bell and his wife Ann; nephews, Parker and Aaron of Midland, Texas; brother, Brian Bell and his wife Kara; nieces, Emily Kate and Conally, of Fort Worth, Texas; many aunts and uncles; her three four-legged children, Dixie Belle, Bear and Bella and horses too numerous to name.
Pall bearers will be Bryce Bell, Ryan Bell, Roy Bowling, Bobby Faris, Keegan Faudree, Will Faudree, Jake Gorrell, Price Williams, and Chase Rutledge; honorary pall bearers, Scott Dinger, Tim Fallon, Matt Gaines, Casey Green, Doug Irvin, and Jay Isaacs.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 20, 2014 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Ellis Funeral Home. Services will be held in Midland, Texas on Wednesday, May 21, 2014. There will be a graveside service at Resthaven Memorial Park at 1:00 pm and continue with a celebration of Amy’s life at First Presbyterian Church at 2:00 pm. Following the service a reception will be held at the Church in Lynn Hall for all family and friends. An additional celebration in memory of Amy will take place at Comanche Springs Ranch in Lipan, Texas on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at 6:30 pm.
In lieu of flowers the family requests any gifts be made to First Presbyterian Church Midland, Texas, The Permian Basin Area Foundation, The AQHA Foundation, and Trinity School of Midland or the charity of your choice."
