Funeral services for Christine McClellan Rentschler, 92 of Anniston will be Saturday at 2:00 P.M. at Gray Brown Service Mortuary with Dr. Mack Amis officiating. Burial will follow at Forestlawn Gardens. The family will receive friends Saturday from 12:00 until 2:00 at Gray Brown. Mrs. Rentschler passed away at UAB Medical Center in Birmingham June 11, 2014.
Survivors include her daughter Cathy Rentschler (Gary Bogart) of St. Pete Beach, Florida, her son Robert Rentschler (Nancy) of Birmingham, and two granddaughters Erika Rentschler Harvell (Jason) and Brittney Rentschler of Los Angeles, California.
Mrs. Rentschler is preceded in death by her parents Floyd and Violet McClellan, her sister Cornelia Moon, her brother Clarence Floyd and her beloved husband of 59 years Robert Rentschler.
Mrs. Rentschler was a native of Calhoun County, and a graduate of Wilmer Ave. Elementary School and Anniston High School. She held three degrees from Jacksonville State University: B.S., A.A., and M.S. She taught at an Anniston private school, at Jacksonville State University and retired from Anniston High School after teaching Senior English for 20 years. She was a member of Parker Memorial Baptist Church. Christine was a member of Kappa Delta Pi educational fraternity and Sigma Tau Delta English fraternity. She was active in the Philomathic Study Club and in teachers’ organizations. In retirement she was a member of the Friends of the Anniston Calhoun County Library. She enjoyed reading, listening to music & writing some autobiographical items. Her real loves were literature and drama, and any activity of her grandchildren. She would like to be remembered as having had the opportunity of touching the lives of the young people whom she has taught through the years—young men and women who are Annistonians and who are making their mark in the world in all walks of life.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Martin’s in the Pines, Birmingham, Al or Friends of the Anniston-Calhoun County Library.
