Paul Michael Salvatore of Cary, NC, 87, died peacefully June 13, 2014 at Transitions LifeCare Hospice Home in Raleigh. Born October 22, 1926, in New York, NY, he was the youngest son of Paul and Grace (Flecknoe) Salvatore. Paul was always proud of his service to the US Navy Sea Bee's during World War II, and loved his country. After his military service, he began a long career in the steel construction business, contributing to many landmark projects, including the Guggenheim Museum, the Verrazano Bridge and World's Fair structures, all in New York City.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Claire (Schweyer), with whom he took vows at St. Anthony's Church in the Bronx, NY. He was a loving father and grandfather to daughters, Theresa, of Cary, NC, and Diane, of Perrysburg, OH; to son-in-law, Stephen Murphy; and twin teen-age grandchildren, Alexandra and Ryan.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his two brothers, Joseph and Vincent.
Family was very important to Paul, and he enjoyed spending time and sharing memories. He'll be best remembered for his impeccable sense of humor and enjoyment of a good Italian meal with friends and family.
The family will receive friends from 4-6pm on Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 SE Maynard Road, Cary, NC 27511.
A funeral service will be held 11:00am Thursday, June 19, 2014 at the funeral home. A reception will follow at 1:00pm at Heritage Pines Clubhouse, 2000 Heritage Pines Drive, Cary, NC 27519.
