Elsie Carter Rockwell Simonson, of Ojai, California, passed away Wednesday, June 18, 2014. She was born in Piru, California on December 11, 1937 to the late Ida Preciado Muth and Ira Nathan Carter. She graduated from Fillmore High School.
A lifelong resident of Ventura County, Elsie was known and admired for her hard work ethic, good humor and fierce spirit. In her lifetime she worked at the Piru Citrus Association in Piru, spent many years with Wheaton Plastics and in her later years worked at Target.
She enjoyed camping and fishing, arts and crafts, especially ceramics and making colorful wood yard art. A lifelong lover of animals, she always had a special furry family member to fuss over. Elsie spent nearly the last 40 years in Ojai, with her husband Robert Simonson, and recently in the good company and care of her beloved son, Scott.
Elsie is predeceased by her parents and her brother, Albert Carter. Survived by her husband, Robert Clayton Simonson III; her son, Scott DeLano; sister, Rosemarie DeLano; nieces, Valerie (DeLano) Ward, Vicki (DeLano) Smart, Pepper (DeLano) Doty and Kristi DeLano; and of course, Honey, her Chihuahua / Shih Tzu mix that is patiently waiting for her to come home.
Graveside Services will be held Wednesday, July 2, 2014, at 11:00am, Piru Cemetery, 3580 Center Street, Piru, CA, with a small reception to follow.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura.
