James Clifton Brown (Jim) 97, died Sunday June 22, 2014, in Atlanta. He was the husband of Mary Frances Brown. He was born in Chattanooga, TN and attended schools there, including the University of Chattanooga. He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Chattanooga. He is survived by his wife Fran, only child Becky McDaniel (Jim), two grandchildren Leslie Van Hiel (Brian), and Jeffrey McDaniel (Tricia), and two great-grandchildren, Lauren and Ella McDaniel. During World War II Jim served five years, mostly in the European Theater of Operations. He was an officer in the Medical Administrative Corps attached to the 8th Infantry Division, landing on Omaha Beach on July 4th, 4 weeks after D-Day. Jim liked to work in the garden, walk, and play bridge. He enjoyed spectator sports, keeping up with current events, and with his wife, traveled extensively to five continents. He was an accountant by profession and retired as Secretary-Treasurer from Hamilton Concrete Products Company. He was a volunteer at Memorial Hospital, Chattanooga, TN, for 25 years and served on its board for 16 years, including ten of those as Treasurer. Funeral services will be Friday, June 27, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
