Mi Sun (Kang) Powers, age 60, passed away peacefully at home in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania after a long ordeal with cancer. Mi Sun was born in 1954 in Gimcheon, South Korea and migrated to Killeen and Fort Hood, Texas to live with her sister in 1975. She is survived by her husband of over 36 years, CW4 U.S. army (retired) Raymond S. Powers Jr. and their three children: Michael R. Powers, 35 of Mechanicsburg; Christine M. Powers, 32 of Philadelphia; and Edwin C. Powers, 30 of New York City. Additionally, Mi Sun is survived by three siblings: brothers Go Bay Kang of Gimcheon, South Korea; Tae Gun Kang of Anchorage, Alaska; and sister, Mi Chi Cha Costlow and her husband SGM U.S. Army (retired) Dennis Costlow of Waynesboro, Pennsylvania; as well as many nephews and nieces.
Mi Sun was a member of the local Korean American Wives Association. She attended the Hope Korean United Methodist Church in Hampden Township and was a former member of the 1st United Methodist Church in Killeen, Texas.
She enjoyed gardening, dining-out with friends and family, daily walks with the family dog, and occasionally traveling, as well as occasional fishing trips with Ray to Quebec, Canada. She also enjoyed gaming, game shows, and Korean soap operas on TV.
Funeral services will be conducted at Neill Funeral Home, 3401 Market street and the corner of 34th street, Camp Hill, PA on Monday, July 7th. Viewing with the family will be from 6:00PM to 7:30PM, immediately followed by funeral service with Rev. Ho Kang presiding.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in the memory of Mi Sun Powers to the Hospice of Central Pennsylvania, 1320 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
