Rosemarie passed away on Saturday, July 5, 2014 at the age 71 years. She was born in Vienna, Austria on October 18, 1942 in the midst of the German occupation of her country. Rose and her mother, Margarete Bauer Blasy, escaped to France to join her father, John F. Blasy, Jr. for their return to the United States where they settled in Chicago. Rose's family moved to Pensacola, FL in the early 1960's where they had family and remained here the rest of her life.
Rose worked at US Gypsum several years in Chicago, and upon moving to Pensacola, she started a long career with the State of Florida in a number of departments, the greatest of these being with the University of West Florida in the Pace Library. She made many, many friends at UWF which became her family in a number of ways. She retired from the library six years ago but has kept in touch with a lot of her friends there.
Upon retirement, Rose said she planned to do volunteer work, which she did at Covenant Hospice. She also vowed to garden more, which became mostly trying to keep up with the leaves from her many trees. She did manage to travel, going to Vienna, London, Paris but the most enjoyable trips were to the Hallmark Conventions in Kansas City, Missouri. Rose's collections, including her Hallmark ornaments, are well known to her family and friends. She gathered thimbles, angels, clowns, Disney items, but most of all teddy bears. She loved her bears so much, she had a Peeka-Poo who looked very much like a small stuffed bear when he was a few weeks old, and she named him Theodore Bear Blasy (Teddy for short). He is 9 years old now and Teddy will miss his human mommy so much.
Rose is preceded in death by her father and beloved mother, as well as her much loved aunts, uncles and a number of cousins.
She is survived by her brother, John F. Blasy, III (Anne), Pensacola, FL; uncle, Joseph Blasy (Betty), Crystal Lake, IL; aunts, Anne Christianson, Flat Rock, NC, Lydia Bauer, Liesing, Austria; beloved cousins, Susan Davis (Bobby), Pensacola, FL, Kathy Johnson (Greg), Charlotte, NC, Corky Beyers (Grace), Castle Rock, CO, Christiane Bachheiher (Rhinehart), Liesing, Austria; many other nephews, nieces and cousins too numerous to mention, but much loved.
Visitation will be Thursday, July 10 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Eastern Gate Memorial Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at Eastern Gate on Friday, July 11 at 1:00 PM with interment to follow in Eastern Gate Memorial Gardens. Eastern Gate Memorial Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.
