James “Jim” Michael Urick, 62, of Jensen Beach passed away July 12, 2014 at Treasure Coast Hospice in Stuart. He was born January 30, 1952, the son of Robert Michael Urick and Mary Catherine Patterson Urick. He graduated from high school in Fort Lauderdale in 1970. Jim was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War, serving for nine years. He served aboard the USS Forrestal aircraft carrier. He was a Navy photographer and also served as a White House photographer during his military service. Jim received an Associate of Arts degree in journalism from Broward Community College in 1984. He worked for Scripps Treasure Coast Newspapers for 25 years, prior to that he worked for the Hollywood Sun-Tattler, also owned by Scripps. Jim had been a news photo editor, staff photographer, chief photographer and page designer during his career. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed cooking. He was a Roman Catholic and belonged to the Knights of Columbus in Stuart. Survivors include his daughter, Brenden Urick of Jensen Beach, FL; father, Robert Michael Urick of Deerfield Beach; sisters, Mary Louise Kruse and her husband, David of Rutherford, NC and Theresa “Terri” Oscarson and husband, Verne of Deerfield Beach, FL. Jim was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Catherine Urick and sister, Beverly Anne Urick Lipscomb. A gathering will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Aycock Funeral Home, 950 N.E. Jensen Beach Blvd., Jensen Beach. A service will follow at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. A memorial service is being planned for a later date.
