Cherished husband of Rita (Quitt) for 66 years, loving father of Paul Naiman and his wife Sandra Smith of Marion, MA; Doris Naiman and her husband Mark Shapiro of Ludlow, MA; Daniel Naiman and his wife Judy LaKind of Catonsville, MD and Janice Naiman of Maynard, MA. Beloved grandfather of Alex, Zach, Jesse and Josh.
Born in Boston, Mel was a graduate of Roxbury Memorial High School and served in the Army Signal Corps as a radar mechanic during World War II. After his discharge, he worked as a machinist at the Watertown Arsenal while attending Northeastern University where he graduated with a degree in engineering. After graduation, he joined Kinney Vacuum Co. as an Industrial Engineer and later became their Chief Industrial Engineer and Plant Manager.
Melvin was a man of many interests and was a Boy Scout leader, gardener, avid reader, lover of classical music and opera and volunteer tax preparer for seniors in Newton and Brighton. A resident of Newton for over 60 years, Melvin mentored many during his life and will be fondly remembered for his sense of humor, humility, compassion and common sense approach to life.
Funeral service to be held at 10 am on Thursday, July 17, 2014 at Stanetsky Memorial Chapel, 475 Washington St. Canton, MA 02021 to be followed by interment at Sharon Memorial Park.
Following the services, family and friends are invited to remember and celebrate Melvin's life at Whitney Place, 3 Vision Drive, Natick, MA 01760.
