Bruce was born on July 4, 1938 in Branchdale, PA and was the son of the late Elizabeth Dunlap and Stanley Charles Beuchler. He was preceded in death by an infant sister, Grace and his brother, Dennis David Beuchler.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Jayne Oakley Beuchler; daughter Michelle and her husband George and son Davis Richards of Charlotte, NC; son, Jason and wife Lea and daughters Madison and Charlie Catherine Beuchler of Greensboro. Also surviving are his brother, LaMarr Beuchler and his wife Jo of Chesapeake, VA; sister-in-law Patricia K Beuchler of Chadds Ford, PA; brother-in-law C. Mitchell Oakley and wife Betsy of Greensboro; brother-in-law James B. Oakley and Judy Jarrett of Greensboro. He has also been blessed to have lots of fun and laughter with his many nieces and nephews.
Bruce graduated from Pennsbury High School in Bucks County Pennsylvania in 1956; he served in the United States Navy on a survey ship that charted the Persian Gulf and other waters of the area. He graduated from Gettysburg College, Gettysburg, PA in 1963 where he was president of Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity and received his MBA from the University of Hartford Connecticut in 1969.
He began his career with Stanley Tools in New Britain CT and when the opportunity came to return to North Carolina he joined Boren Brick Company. He moved to Columbia, SC where he became president of Richtex Hanson Brick Company until his retirement on 2002.
After retirement he and Jayne returned to Greensboro where he became an active member of the First Presbyterian Church. He is a former president of the Young Men’s Bible Class, usher, and on several committees.
He was a member of the Columbia, SC Rotary Club and the Greensboro Rotary Club. He served on the Board of the School of Humanities and Architecture at Clemson University for many years, the Board of Trustees at Columbia College, The Board of Visitors at Presbyterian College, and the Board of Columbia Technical Institute. He was the board Chair of Junior Achievement of Columbia, the Board of Directors of the United Way of the Midlands, the Leukemia Society of Columbia, Lexington Medical Center Foundations, the Industrial Chief Executive Group of Greater Columbia Chamber of Commerce, and a board member of both the North and South Carolina Brick Associations. He assisted with the combining of the two into the Brick Association of the Carolinas. He was also a member of the Brick Industry Association.
Throughout Bruce’s life he enjoyed the outdoors and communed with nature thru his interest in landscaping and sports. His grandchildren will carry on his love of the outdoors as he spent much time with them, teaching them how to appreciate the beauty it is. Watching sporting events gave pleasure to Bruce especially if it was while watching his children or grand-children play. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, as well as snow and water skiing. It’s these memories of family trips or merely sitting on the deck talking about the day that will be treasured. With his friends, he was a member of the “Golf Group” and for much of their lives played golf, played tricks on one another, watched as their families grew in age and size, and built the foundation for a good life.
Bruce was a kind and gentle soul who lived a life of honor and integrity. Family always coming first, his children sought him out for advice in life’s challenges, knowing his opinion was one worth taking. Through volunteerism he taught the grandchildren the importance of giving back as they “rang the bell” during the holidays. He loved Jayne most of all and lit up every time he saw her. He was a loving and faithful man who will be missed.
