Born December 14, 1917, in Lake Helen, Florida, Annie was preceded in death by her loving husband Mel Franks. Annie and Mel met and married and started their family in Miami, Florida. They lived in Pompano Beach, Florida, where Mel was a co-founder of Pompano Printing Company and Annie served as Secretary/receptionist/bookkeeper. They moved to Charlotte in 1963 where Annie continued her loves of bowling, golf and bridge. She joined the Mountainbrook Garden Club and Lori Book Club.
A member of Sardis Baptist Church, Annie had been a member of Carmel and Providence Baptist churches. She placed her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as a young woman and loved reading and studying scripture. She participated in Sunday school, bible studies, and women’s missionary union a teacher, committee leader, and active contributor. She had the gifts of praying and service and spent a lifetime focusing on others.
The backbone of her family, Annie showed unconditional love for her husband, children, grandchildren and friends and other relatives. A remarkable listener and conversationalist, she had an amazing memory, which she retained to the end. She was a great hostess and cook.
Annie is survived by son Douglas Franks of Las Vegas, Nevada (wife, Mary and children Margie and Gwen (deceased)); daughter Jenny Franks Bowers of Charlotte (husband, Bruce); and grandchildren Rob, Bridgett, and Jeff Bowers. Surviving sisters are Ernestine Gattis of Griffin, GA and Alice Gratteau of Schertz, TX.
A memorial service to celebrate Annie’s life will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 19 at Sardis Baptist Church, 5811 Sardis Road, Charlotte, followed by a reception. Family members will be provided a dinner by the church following the reception.
