Abbye J. Richner, 86, formerly of Homosassa, passed away on Wed., July 30, 2014 at Avante of Inverness. A native of Chiefland, FL, she was born Dec. 8, 1927 to Robert and Dora (Williams) Rodgers, one of two children. A graduate of Chiefland High School, she also was a proud Florida State University graduate with a bachelor’s degree in business education. Mrs. Richner enjoyed a 33 year career as an educator, beginning at Macclenny Elementary School and then Dunnellon Elementary School. Abbye then spent 30 years in Polk County schools first with Southwest Junior High School and then for 29 years at Lakeland High School. Mrs. Richner was a member of First United Methodist Church of Homosassa, Sugarmill Woods Country Club, Oak Village Women’s Club, NSDAR Annuttaliga Chapter, Citrus County Historical and Genealogical Society, Levy County Genealogical Society and Sugarmill Woods Genealogy Club. She married Gustaf W. Fisher June 24, 1951, and two sons were born from their marriage. She then married William E. Richner on Aug. 18, 1988, who preceded her in death in 2012. Mrs. Richner is survived by her two sons; Carl G. Fisher (wife Beth), Gainesville, Fl and Curtis R. Fisher (wife Mona), Brooksville, FL; stepchildren Carol Liedke, Joliet, IL; Mary Ann Campbell, Newnan, GA and William J. Richner, Middleton, WI and twin granddaughters Sarah E. Fisher, Tampa, FL and Elise C. Fisher, New York, NY. Abbye was preceded in death by a sister, Anne Elise Hall. Funeral service of remembrance will be held on Sat., Aug. 2, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. at First United Methodist Church of Homosassa Chapel. Friends will be received from 9:00 A.M. until time of service. Interment will follow at Chiefland Cemetery, Chiefland, FL.
