Dr. Donald Gene Wood Jr., 64 of Louisville, passed away August 1, 2014. Don was a graduate of the University of Louisville College of Medicine, and was a Doctor of Endocrinology. Don was a member of the ADA, Endocrine Society and the Greater Louisville Medical Society. Dr. Wood was a speaker for several drug companies where he would travel teaching other doctors the benefits of new medications and how they could help their patients. He was very loved and touched so many people's lives. Above all Don was a brilliant doctor who truly loved his patients. Don's patients and practice were more than medicine, they were family.
Don is survived by his children; Kirsten and Connor Wood; his mother, Anna Marie Morehead Wood; sisters, Joyce (Buddy) Elmore and Janet (John) Winfrey, and brother, Mark (Pam) Wood, and was preceded in death by his father, Donald Gene Wood Sr. Don had a number of dedicated staff members including, his office manager of 21 years, Debbi Newcomb; Nurse Practitioner of 4 years, Sheila Throneberry; and his office staff, MaryAnn Lewis, Violet Bertschy, Amanda Kelly, Debra Whitehead, Jan Martin, Tanell Gonterman and Shanea Newcomb.
A celebration of Don’s life will be 2pm Tuesday August 5, 2014 at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, with burial in Resthaven Memorial Park. Visitation will be 2-8 pm Monday August 4, 2014 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
