Guilherme was born in Vila Franca da Serra, Portugal on October 28, 1930 to the late Manuel and Maria Augusta Ferreira Bernardino. He moved to the United States in 1959 and was employed by Castro Convertible for many years and in 1976 started his own business, Bernardino's Furniture on Main Street in Danbury with his wife Aurora, retiring in 2006.
Guilherme enjoyed spending time with his family and friends sharing wonderful stories of his years growing up in Portugal. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and will be sorely missed.
In addition to his wife Aurora of 53 years, Guilherme is survived by his daughter Helena (Bernardino) Skinner of Weymouth, Massachusetts, and his grandchildren William and Olivia Skinner also of Weymouth, Massachusetts. He is also survived by many wonderful nieces, nephews and extended family members, most notably his nephew Antonio DaCruz and wife Fatima of Danbury, who have been extraordinarily generous with their time and support in assisting with Guilherme's care. Guilherme is predeceased by his son Francisco Bernardino, his son-in-law Richard J. Skinner and his siblings Albertina F. Bernardino, Natividad Bernardino, Maria de Jesus Mello and Antonio Bernardino. The family would like to thank Dr. Robert Cooper and his staff for the many years of incomparable care and support as well as Dr. John Chronakos, the medical and support staff in the oncology and the intensive care units at Danbury Hospital for their wonderful care during the last days of Guilherme's life.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30am on Thursday August 14th in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Deer Hill Avenue Danbury. Burial will be in Saint Peter Cemetery, Danbury. The family will receive friends at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main Street, Danbury on Wednesday August 13th from 4:00 to 7:00pm.
