Mary Anne Collins, 81, passed away August 14, 2014 in Georgetown, Texas on her late husband, John Collins’ birthday. She tried so hard to keep going and wanted to come home so badly; she was a fighter to the end.
Mary was a wonderful mother and best friend; she was born in Seaham County Durham, England. She once dated a guardsman at Buckingham Palace in London, England and loved ballroom dancing, traveling, gardening, decorating and shopping. Mary met her husband, John in Southern England where they were married after several years of dating and resided in England until 1957 when they decided to leave England and move to Canada where they lived for 5 years. The weather was just too cold in Canada so they decided to move to the U.S.A. to the state of California where they remained and raised their children until the passing of Mary’s husband John. The economy was getting hard in California so Mary and her daughter decided to move to Texas in 2012 where they have really good friends.
Mary was an Assistant Manager for Bullock’s Department Stores for 15 years and earned an award for Employee of the Year. She loved her job and the people she worked with. Every time the General Manager from Corporate Headquarters would visit the store Mary was asked to come and have coffee with them. Although she wasn’t a coffee drinker she would have tea with them (being British). She was a very popular person.
Mary’s favorite holidays were Thanksgiving and Christmas but she loved Christmas more. She loved to put together family dinners and was a wonderful cook.
She loved cats and enjoyed going to cat shows. Her favorite cat was her beloved “Ragdoll” named Snowball. She loved to watch the Housing Channel and Shopping Channels; her favorite was “QVC” for 20 years.
Mary had a great personality, she loved being around people and her two favorite places to visit were London, England and Disney World in Florida.
When Mary and her daughter visited Disney World they met the Bell Captain at the Grand Floridian who was in charge of Princess Diana and her two boys Prince William and Harry and heard some royalty stories. Mary idolized Princess Diana. Mary and her daughter were the best of friends and would do anything for each other. Mary will be greatly missed!
Mary is survived by her daughter, Kim Collins; son, Graham Collins; brother-in-law, Ray Collins; daughter-in-law, Carolina Collins; and of course the beloved cat “Simba”.
