Paul S. Amenta, 92, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 8, 2014 with his loving family by his side.
Paul led an inspiring life in which he served as a WWII pilot, dedicated over 30 years of his time on the CT Board of Education, served six terms as a CT State Senator, and spent his last years until the age of 79 at AFSCME’s Political and Legislative Director. He was an extremely generous man who gave endlessly of his time and of his love.
Paul was born on September 30, 1922 to Salvatore and Vita (Crisafulli) Amenta. He is survived by his 5 children, daughter Joyce and Dave McKnight of Bristol, a daughter Sharron Amenta Blancato of New Britain; one son Paul and Jean Amenta of New Britain; daughter Pamela Gervais and her fiancé Gordon Page of Westbrook; daughter Cynthia Amenta Panella and Joe Simlick of Westbrook, CT. He also leaves his brother Sebastian Amenta of Ft. Lauderdale, FL., 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and friends that all lovingly called him “Pop!” Paul will rest in loving peace with his wife of 55 years, Marion (Whitney) Amenta, his daughter Patricia (Amenta) Nigro,his brother Carmen Amenta and his sister Mary (Amenta) DeLorenze. At this time we would also like to acknowledge Theresa Gavin and Tom and Angie Dolan who took care of him on his last journey.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2014 at 9:00 AM from the New Britain Memorial Donald D. Sagarino Funeral Home, 444 Farmington Ave. New Britain, followed by a mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. Maurice Church, 100 Whitman Rd. New Britain. Burial with military honors will be at St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain.
