Dr. Leyla DeToledo Morrell, 73, passed away suddenly on January 20, 2015. Leyla was born August 6, 1941 in Istanbul, Turkey. She was the devoted wife of the late Dr. Frank Morrell, beloved daughter of the late Marco DeToledo and Vicky (DeToledo) Asch, and step-father Gorun Asch. She was the caring step-mother of Seth (Laura), Paul (Kevin), Michael, and Suzanna (David). She was deeply cherished by her grandchildren Anna Rose, Daniel, Natalie, and Nolan; a loving cousin of the Keribar family and a devoted colleague and friend. She was also a great patron of the arts. Throughout her professional life, Leyla studied the mechanisms of learning in the brain. She was also a leader in the field of Alzheimer's research, giving hope for early treatment interventions by identifying risk factors for developing Alzheimer's disease. Leyla leaves a solid legacy of scientific discovery and achievement. She will be missed by her family and by the many scientists around the world for whom she was an inspiring colleague.
