Janet Sue Phillips, loving wife for 43 years, was born on October 9, 1949, in Toledo, Oregon, and died June 2, 2015, at her home in Newberg, Oregon, surrounded by her family and those things in life she so dearly loved. The oldest child of Mary and Donald Kuenzli, Janet spent her early years growing up in Newport, Oregon, graduating from high school in 1967 and enrolling in the fall of that year at the University of Oregon. She met, fell in love, and married her husband Mike in the fall of 1972 and embarked on a life adventure that included giving birth to three boys, teaching at the Lake Grove Women Bible Study for over 20 years, and rescuing numerous pets and animals, all while developing a passion for horse ownership later in life. As a woman of strong faith, family was the most important thing in her life and she raised "her boys" to be outstanding young men by being their counselor, mentor and friend in addition to being their mom. One of her greatest rewards was acknowledging the three wonderful daughter-in-laws that joined the Phillips family through the marriage of each of her sons. Janet was a beautiful woman who was energetic and could light up any room just through her presence. She was always graceful, compassionate, caring and had a passion for life that was truly remarkable. Even though she now has claimed her place in Heaven, she will be sorely missed by her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Donald, and is survived by her husband, Mike, her sons Grant (Shenell); Blake (Michelle); and Jordan (Erin); her mother, Mary; her sister, Marilyn; numerous nieces and nephews, and an enormous collection of friends.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, June 20th at the Newberg Christian Church with a Celebration of Life reception immediately following. All who knew her are invited to attend.
