Marion John Malazzo, 91, of Bryan, Texas, passed from this earth on November 25, 2015. A visitation will start at 5:00 PM, Sunday, November 29th at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan, with the Rosary to be recited at 6:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 AM, Monday, November 30th at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Bryan. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery. He requested the following nephews to be his pallbearers: Jeff Centilli, Gregg Centilli, Doug Centilli, Norman Ellison, Jr., Les Bunte, Rick Malazzo, Randy Malazzo, and John Malazzo. Marion also requested the following to be honorary pallbearers: Pete Altimore, Jr., Jerry Armstrong, Sr., Luke Bush, Sam Campise, Ann Yager Chapman, Lee Fazzino, Willie Hicks, Milton Lightsey, Ben Novosad, Candy Yager Rogers, and Sandyr Scarmardo.
He was born May 4, 1924 the son of John and Vita Scarmardo Malazzo. He was raised on a farm and ranch in the Brazos Bottom. He first attended the Greg School and then attended Bryan High School for three years. He lived with his sister Louise Altimore his senior year in high school in Hearne, Texas until his graduation from Hearne High School in 1941. He then attended Southwest Texas State College in San Marcos, Texas. While in college, he was drafted into the Army, where he earned a WWII Victory Medal. He served in the Army as a Private 1st Class at Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland where he attended a small arms/weapons school. He was transferred from there to the Brooklyn Navy Yard to the United States Atlantic Coast to Oahu, Hawaii for six months, to two weeks of special duty in the Philippines. He then went back to Hawaii until he was transferred to Camp Stoneman in California. His main job in the Army was a Morning Report Section Head who discharged the servicemen. He was finally able to discharge himself after dismissing all others after servicing from 1945 – 1947.
He married Matilda Marie Loria on July 29, 1947 in Hearne, Texas. They established a home in the Brazos Bottom, where Marion farmed and ranched. Matilda passed away on December 3, 1996. Marion married Sue Tidmore Bush on December 31, 2003.
Throughout the years Marion served his community in many capacities. He served on the Burleson County Farm Agency Committee for forty-eight years, fifteen of which he was the chairman. He was a member of TAFEC (Texas Association Farmers and Elected Committeemen) and NAFEC (National Association of Farmers and Elected Committeemen.) He served as National President of NAFEC from 1995-1996, where he helped develop farm programs that benefited farmers and ranchers across the country. He served on the board of the Federal Land Bank Association and Capital Farm Credit for fourteen years. He was an active member of the Caldwell ISD School Board for nine years. He was one of the Board of Directors of Goodnight Memorial Hospital in Caldwell, Texas and a member of the Caldwell Lions Club. He was also a member of the San Salvador Mission Church in the Brazos Bottom.
Marion had a life that concentrated on his passions – serving his family and friends, and promoting agriculture at every opportunity. He enjoyed his busy life of farming while managing to stay close to his family and friends. His quick wit and endless corny jokes will be remembered by all who were close to him.
Marion was preceded in death by his parents, John and Vita Malazzo; his wife Matilda Marie Loria Malazzo; his sister Louise Altimore and her husband Mike; his brother and sister-in-law Sam and Vita Malazzo; his brother Joe Malazzo; a son-in-law David Novosad. He was also preceded in death by his brothers-in-law Norman Ellison, Sr., Frank Loria and Chris Loria; and a sister-in-law Josephine Loria.
Survivors include his wife Sue and her daughters, Suzie (Bush) Silverthorne and her husband CB, Laurie and Mitzie Bush; his sons and their wives, John and Donna Malazzo, Marion Jay and Jeanine Malazzo; his daughters, Vickie Novosad, Linda Spies, and Gail Krueger. He is also survived by his sister Pauline and her husband John Centilli; sisters-in-law Ruth Scarmardo, Maria Loria and Virginia Ellison. He also left behind twelve grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews whom he cared about greatly.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Hospice Brazos Valley or St. Anthony Catholic Church.
