PELL CITY – Funeral Service for Judge Charles E. Robinson, Sr., age 76, will be Thursday, May 26 at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in the Beacon. Interment will follow at Valley Hill Cemetery. The family will receive family and friends Wednesday, May 25 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Beacon located at the First United Methodist Church in Pell City.
Judge Robinson passed away Tuesday, May 24, 2016. He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Anne Lowery Robinson.
He is survived by 2 sons, Charles E. (Jackie) Robinson, Jr., Thomas D. (Kristi) Robinson; grandchildren, Anna Elise Robinson, Charles E. “Chase” Robinson, III, Jacqueline Brooklere “Brooke” Robinson, Mary Elizabeth “Mary Beth” Robinson; 2 sisters, Ann Helms, Jane Cobb; and several nieces & nephews along with special friend, Darrell Cade.
Judge Robinson attended Ashville Schools through the tenth grade. Upon completion of the tenth grade he moved to Pell City and graduated from Pell City High School in 1957.
After graduating from Pell City High School, he attended the University of Alabama where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1962. He attended Cumberland School of Law and received his Juris Doctorate degree in 1965.
Judge Robinson began his law practice with Judge Frank Embry in 1965 as a third generation St. Clair County lawyer. He served as District Attorney for the 30th Judicial Circuit in 1971-1975. In 1975, he joined the law practice of Church, Trussell & Robinson where he practiced until 1992. He served as Assistant District Attorney, part-time, from 1992-2001. Judge opened his own law practice in 1992 and in 1996, he founded The Law Firm of Robinson & Robinson, P.C..
From 2001-2011, Judge served as the Circuit and Presiding Judge, 30th Judicial Circuit, St. Clair County. After his retirement from the bench, he returned to the private practice of law with The Robinson Law Firm, P.C..
Judge Robinson was active in numerous civic and professional organizations. He was a past member of The Pell City Jaycee’s, Lions Club, Rotary Club, Civitan Club, Pell City Quarterback Club, Pell City Diamond Club, Ben M. Jacobs Lodge, Zamora Temple, Bar Commissioner of The Alabama Bar Association and member of St Clair County Bar Association, State of Alabama Conservation Advisory Board, State of Alabama and St. Clair County Democratic Executive Committee, Board member of the Pell City Center for Education and Performing Arts, 5W Club and numerous others.
He was also a 2015 inductee to the St. Clair County Sports Hall of Fame.
