A native of LaCrosse, Wisconsin, Dr. Gruebel was born April 23, 1924, as a son of the late Ralph and Seena Gruebel. He had lived in Nacogdoches for 45 years and faithfully served on the faculty of Stephen F. Austin State University. Dr. Gruebel was a U.S. Navy veteran, retiring from a 20-year career including service in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam.
His survivors include his wife, Jo Carlson of Nacogdoches, Texas; along with their children, Robert Gruebel, Ralph Gruebel, Ronald Carlson, Gregory Carlson, Mark Carlson, and James "Bo" Carlson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by Eleanor Jane Gruebel, wife; Diane Ford Gruebel, wife; and Dr. Barbara Gruebel, daughter.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 22, 2016, at Cason Monk-Metcalf.
Services are set for 2:30 p.m. Thursday, June 23, 2016, at Cason Monk-Metcalf's Sunset Chapel, located at 5400 North Street in Nacogdoches. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery, located at on Lanana Street in Nacogdoches.
