James Edward Hundemer, aged 71, entered into rest on September 1, 2016. He was born January 26, 1945 in Wichita, Kansas, to the late Louis and Ruth Hundemer. He received his Bachelor’s in History from the University of Texas at Austin, and a Master’s in Education from University of Houston.
James, known to family, friends and coworkers as Jim, enlisted in the United States Army in 1968 and proudly served his country in the Vietnam War. After returning home, Jim served Houston ISD as a teacher and later as an administrator. He finished his career in education as Director of Library Services before his retirement. Jim loved fishing, hunting, and cooking meals for the family and friends whom he loved. He was a parishioner and volunteered as a lector at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Huntsville.
Jim leaves behind three children – Erin (son-in-law Byron), Todd and Ryan (daughter-in-law Kathryn) – as well as two grandchildren, Barrett and Addison; brothers Mark (Joann), Scott (Vickie) and Barry Hundemer (Jan), and numerous nieces, nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews.
A visitation will be held Sunday, September 11, 2016 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at American Heritage Funeral Home, 10710 Veterans Memorial Dr., Houston, Texas 77038. Services will be held Monday, September 12, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. with interment to follow at Houston National Cemetery.
Flowers will be accepted; however, those wishing to do so may donate to one of Jim’s favorite causes, disabled veterans, through the Disabled American Veterans or Disabled Veterans National Foundation.
