Shirley Ann Guevara, age 66, was united with her heavenly father on Sunday, September 4, 2016, surrounded by her family in her Holland, Michigan home. Her life was sadly claimed prematurely to cancer.
She was born in Zeeland, Michigan on March 7, 1950, where she was raised by her very loving Christian parents Forris and Gertrude Brummel (preceded in death). Her siblings still live in the area. Shirley's older brother Laverne Brummel and his wife Marcia, younger sister Eileen Blauwkamp and younger brother Kevin Brummel and his wife Joyce.
She graduated from Holland Christian High School then took a job at Colonial Clocks in Zeeland, where she fell in love with her soulmate Noe Guevara of Grand Rapids in 1970. The two were married on November 6 later that year. Together they raised four children. Their daughter Kelly Groteler and her husband Robert (Holland MI), their son Jamie Guevara and wife Christine (Santa Fe, NM), and sons Thomas and David Guevara (Holland MI).
During their 45 year marriage they were also blessed with 5 grandchildren - Caleb, Haley, Sydney, Brooke and Saige. They will always remember grandma Shirley for the time spent feeding the deer, playing with dolls, and quality time spent at the cabin. She was a devoted stay home mother and raised her children to love Jesus. In 1990, Noe was severely injured in a motorcycle accident leaving him a quadriplegic. With the Lords help, she dedicated her life to his full time care. She accompanied him to his job at the phone company for many years allowing him to retire. She enjoyed reading, antiquing, nature, and spending time at their cabin (sanctuary) in Wellston, Michigan, surrounded by wildlife. Shirley will always be an example of undeniable faith, unconditional love, and servitude to her family and Heavenly Father.
A service to celebrate her life will be Saturday, September 10, 11 a.m., at Lakeshore Memorial Services, 11939 James Street, Holland Michigan. Visitation will be Thursday, September 8, 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Entombment will be at Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Holland.
