He was the son of Irvan and Louise (McKay) Nye, born on March 9, 1935 in Cadillac, Michigan.
On March 8, 1957, Delbert married Geraldine (Gerry) Stitt in Mesick, Michigan. Together they raised three children.
Delbert was a member of the Army National Guard in the early 1950's. He served with the military police in the motor pool division. He was also the unofficial "Sheriff" of Harietta, Michigan in 1957-58.
Delbert was a freight truck driver for over 40 years. He hauled a little bit of everything from Asphalt to Cattle. He loved driving the truck and logged over a million miles before he retired.
Delbert owned and operated Nye's Trap Range in Kingsley. Shooting trap was his passion. He was inducted into the Michigan Trap Shooting Hall of Fame in 2015. He was a member of the Amateur Trap Shooting Association and the NRA.
Delbert was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Allen Nye. He is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Gerry; his children Cecil (Toni) Nye of Kingsley, Kay (John) Stone of Thompsonville and Leslie Smith of Kingsley; five grand children: Melanie, James, Jesse, Tina and Dewayne and two great grandchildren; Molly and Oliver; sister Dorothy Butcher and brother James Nye.
A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, March 4, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the Kingsley High School Gymnasium with a reception to follow.
