Carrie Elin Koester, 56, of Ankeny, passed away on May 17, 2017. A visitation will be held at the Ankeny Funeral Home (1510 W First St., Ankeny, IA 50023) on Sunday, May 21, 2017 from 5-7pm. A mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30am on Monday, May 22, 2017 at Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart Catholic Church (510 E First St., Ankeny, IA 50021).
Carrie was born in Fort Dodge on February 6, 1961 to Edward and Joanne (O’Keefe) Steinhoff. She grew up in Fort Dodge, graduating from Fort Dodge High School in 1979, she continued her education at Iowa Central College, graduating in 1981 with a degree in Nursing.
Following graduation she dedicated her life to caring for others in her nursing career, predominantly in senior care facilities. She and Pat were married on August 27, 1988 and welcomed their son Jacob into their lives in 1999.
She will be remembered by those who knew her for her quick wit and dry sense of humor. Her positive outlook on life and strong will was evident in her lifelong battle with Diabetes. She loved being by the water, spending time at the lake with her loved ones and a good game of cards. She also enjoyed antiquing and gardening.
Carrie is preceded by her parents, daughter Meghan, son Sean, sister Amy and nephew Coby.
She is survived by her husband, Pat, son Jacob, sisters Lisa (Steve) Leppart, Paula Steinhoff, Jana (John) Hacker, Jill Crimmins, brother Shane (Julie) Steinhoff and multiple in-laws, nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart Foundation Fund, or the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.
