Margaret met the love of her life, Valerie Gora, in 1989 in Fox Lake, IL. They lived in McHenry, IL, in a log cabin home, that Valerie built while Margaret supervised. In 2007 they moved to North Palm Beach, Florida and in 2013 officially married when it became legal.
Margaret’s favorite hobbies were pottery and knitting. If she was not at home knitting helmet liners for soldiers to keep their heads warm, you could find her behind a potter’s wheel at her local pottery studio.
Margaret volunteered for many different organizations including: Medical Taxi for Tanqueray’s American AIDS Rides, she fought for LGBT partner benefits, she was an active member of many “Women in Business” groups, and she was a regular volunteer at John D. MacArthur Beach State Park for the past 10 years.
Margaret loved life and with Valerie by her side, they would ride their bikes, go camping, scuba and snorkeled, and traveled the world. You could also find them quietly enjoying the serenity of the ocean and their local beach.
Margaret was a senior technical writer, editor, and e-learning specialist. She created manuals and on-line learning for such companies as Motorola, VW and General Electric. Since moving to Florida in 2007 she worked for NextEra Energy in Juno Beach, Florida.
Margaret is survived by her wife, Valerie Caruso (Gora) and her many family members: Tom & Aileen Gora, Tim & Sharon Gora, Leanne & Alex Kurland, Scott & Karen Migaldi, Robert & Dennis Webber-Johnson, Janice Kerber, Bill Levy, Patrick Schwartz, Cheryl Houghtelin, Tami Mitchell, Becky Lucas, Virginia Cofer, Michael & Cathy Shea and so many friends that will miss her for eternity.
Thank you to the Palm Beach EMTS and the Palm Beach Gardens emergency staff for all their efforts to save her life.
A celebration of life will be held on July 9th, 2017 at John D. MacArthur Beach State Park, 10900 Jack Nicklaus Drive, North Palm Beach, FL 33408 in the North Pavilion from 10:00am to 1:00pm. Lunch will be available as well as sharing of memories and stories to celebrate Margaret’s life.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Epilepsy Foundation Florida, 7300 N. Kendall Drive, Suite 760, Miami, Florida 33156.
