She was a faithful Christian and will be sorely missed. She was born on March 2, 1921 to Minnie Warrick and Willet Castlebury near McKinney, TX. The family moved to Vernon, TX where she attended school. She met and married Cecil Vaughn Graves on September 6, 1939 in Wichita Falls.
During the WWII years, they moved to Grand Prairie to work at the Chance Vaught Aircraft plant where she was a riveter on the B24 Liberator Bomber and P51 Mustang Fighter. They moved to Wichita Falls in 1944 where they raised two daughters and lived for 60 years. She retired from Sears in 1985 where she was Division Manager for the Children’s Department for 27 years, and was lovingly known as “Granny”. She was an active member of First Baptist Church and taught Primary Sunday School for years. Golf was her love and she played in tournaments and with friends at every opportunity. She loved to travel and visited every state, England and much of Europe. She moved to McKinney in 2007 to be closer to family.
She is preceded in death by her parents, seven siblings and her husband of 72 years, Cecil Vaughn Graves. Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Helen LaVon and Bob Kuhnert of McKinney and Linda Jean and Dr. Joe Finley of Beaumont, seven grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren.
The family extends their deep appreciation for the excellent care and love to Helen Gaona and Kathy O’Neal for the last three years of her life.
