Adelia Francis Horton, age 93, of Plano, Texas died peacefully on Monday October 9, 2017 at Medical City Plano surrounded by her loving family. Adelia was born on February 22, 1924 in Hinton Oklahoma. She attended school in Hinton and graduated from Hinton High School. While living in Hinton, Adelia worked as a “soda jerk” at the local drug store, which was owned by her aunt. Her aunt also trained Adelia to be a dietician. She moved to Dallas Texas where she met and married the love of her life, Sam Horton Jr. They were married for 69 years before his death in 2014.
Besides being a full time Mom to her three sons, Adelia worked in the grocery business. She was an employee of both Minyard Food Stores and A&P. She was an active participant in PTA organizations as her boys grew up. She was an avid reader, crossword “puzzler” and gardener. She was also a member of the Webb Chapel United Methodist Church.
Adelia is survived by three sons; Sam Horton III (Diane) of Plano, Texas, Steve Horton (Jan) of Marshall, Texas and Charles Horton of Austin, Texas. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Sam Horton Jr., her brother John Lambert and her infant daughter Marie.
A service to celebrate Adelia’s life will be held on Saturday October 14th in the Grove Hill Funeral Home Chapel, 4118 Samuell Blvd, Dallas, TX 75228. Time of the service is 10am. Burial will follow at Grove Hill Memorial Park. The family suggests that memorials may be made to the Parkinson’s Society or the American Cancer Society.
