Grace Elizabeth Lingel, age 100 of New Plymouth, passed away Friday November 10, 2017 in Hood River, OR. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM Thursday November 16, 2017 at the First Baptist Church in New Plymouth. Friends may call Thursday November 16, 2017 from 9am to 10am at the First Baptist Church in New Plymouth. Condolences may be made to Graces’ family at www.shaffer-jensenchapel.com. Grace was born on February 8, 1917 at Meridian, Idaho to Lester and Mina (Cox) Shaul. She attended the Lake Hazel School and graduated from Meridian High School. After graduating she worked at several department stores and Restaurants in down town Boise.
She met and married Wayne Lingel on June 12, 1940 in Mountain Home, Idaho. At that time she started her life as a homemaker and a farmer’s wife. In 1944 she and Wayne moved to New Plymouth to expand their farming and dairy business. This is where they raised their three sons, Merle, Melvyn and Terry.
At times she would work at seasonal jobs in a packing shed or at the Fruitland Cannery. These funds were always used to help the family. As the boys grew she would take them to the apple and prune orchards to give them some new experiences. She would make sure they would do a good job. She worked at the Lunch Kitchen at New Plymouth High School. Later she worked at Wilson Drug Store in New Plymouth. She also helped out at D & J Foods, the New Plymouth Senior Center and with dinners at the First Baptist Church.
In 2009 she moved to The Dalles, OR to be near her son Melvin and his family.
She is survived by her sons, Merle (Jean), Melvyn (Joan), Terry (Lorie) Lingel; Sister, Evelyn (Hurley) Legg; six grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, five great great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Lingel; parents, Lester & Mina Shaul; daughter-in-law, Karen Lingel; granddaughter, Shelley Lingel; brother, Charles Shaul; sisters, Marion (Bob) Parks, Edith (Charlie) Cooper, and Ethel (Dick) Wood.
