The oldest of three children, Dorothy was born in Biwabik, Minnesota to Sylvia and Jacob Uusitalo. The Family moved to state of Washington in 1940. She was graduate of Central Washington University where she was selected in the 1948-49 publication of “Who’s Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities.”
Following graduation Dorothy worked in the Finance Department for General Electric Company in Richland, Washington. It was here that she met her future husband Robert B. Hamilton (Bob). They were married in 1951 and after their two sons were born she became a full-time homemaker.
Bob was transferred to GE’s Atomic Power Equipment Department in San Jose California in 1959. They maintained the family home in San Jose but at times the family moved for temporary assignments to Joliet, Illinois, Tokai Mura, Japan and Plymouth, Massachusetts. Their daughter was born in San Jose.
Committed to family and friends Dorothy enjoyed reading, movies, the theater, symphony, and bridge. She did volunteer work for several organizations, a favorite one being a tutor in the ESL program for adults. She was a 50+ year member of the First Congregational Church in San Jose, serving in several capacities, with special interest in Women’s Fellowship.
She was preceded in death by her son Robert Scott Hamilton and her two brothers Jack Russell Uusitalo and John R. Uusitalo. Survivors include her husband of 66 years; son Steven M Hamilton and his wife Valerie West of Jersey City, N.J; daughter Deborah L. Hamilton and her husband Richard H. Johnson of Almo Ca grandchildren Philip M Hamilton, Katharine M. Jamison nee Hamilton, Emilie H. Johnson and Maxwell H. Johnson and several nieces and nephews in Washington state.
At Dorothy’s request any services will be held at graveside at Oak Hill Memorial Park at some later date
