DR. WILHELMINA ASHWORTH Prescott, AZ – Dr. Wilhelmina Ashworth, formerly of Fayetteville, WV, passed away Saturday, December 23, 2017, in Arizona. Born in Smithfield, WV, she was the daughter of the late Oscar Clyde and Mildred Edna Michael Cartwright. Dr. Ashworth was a graduate of Huntington East High School; B.S. Degree from University of Charleston; Master’s Degree from Marshall University; and Doctorate in Educational Administration from Nova University in Fort Lauderdale FL. She was a teacher, principal, administrator, and director in the Fayette County School System for over 40 years. She was very active in, and served as President of many statewide educational associations and sororities. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband Edward Clayton Ashworth, son, Michael Edward Ashworth (Capt., USAF, Ret.), four brothers: Raymond Cartwright, Victor Cartwright, Leland Cartwright, and Oscar Cartwright, and two sisters Melba Jean Cartwright and Lou Hammond. Among those left to cherish her memory are youngest brother Carlos James Cartwright of Jonesboro, TN, son Dr. Jeffrey Clayton Ashworth (Lt. Col., USAF, Ret.), and his wife Mary Jane Ashworth of Prescott, AZ; two granddaughters: Amy Elizabeth Ashworth and Hon. Julie Ashworth LaFave, three great-grandchildren: Taylor Marie Ashworth, Ryan Clayton LaFave, and Caden Alexander LaFave, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 10 AM on Thursday, January 4, 2018 at Fayetteville United Methodist Church with Rev. David Cartwright and Pastor Timothy Bleigh officiating. Burial will follow at Restlawn Memory Gardens, Victor, WV. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 PM Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home, Fayetteville.
