Nita Aiken Henckel was born to Nadine and Weldon Glover in Deport, Texas on November 12, 1934. She passed away at her home in Katy, Texas on January 7th, 2018 with her children, after many years of managing melanoma cancer. Nita Joyce was a graduate of Paris High School, Paris Junior College, and the University of Houston where she obtained a BA and MS in Education. She dedicated her professional career of more than thirty years in the Spring Branch ISD system to teaching reading to elementary school children. She was an avid reader who practiced all she taught, enthusiastic crafter/painter/gardener, and a clear and resolute voice for the Baptist Hymnal. She enjoyed the fellowship of her teaching colleagues and many friends at Tallowood Baptist Church. Nita was married to Edgar Sira Aiken from 1955 until his passing in 1978 and is survived by their sons John and wife Yu-Wen of Plano, and Randall and wife Elizabeth of Katy. Nita Joyce was married to Carroll S. Henckel of Houston from 1988 until his passing in 2004, and is survived by step-son Kenneth Henckel, step-daughters Kim Henkhaus, and Tami Franklin, and preceded by her stepdaughter Glenda Henckel. Nita Joyce was also quite proud of and loved by her four grandchildren Joshua, James, Julia, and Robert. Nita lived most of her adult life in Houston but remained a Lamar County Parisian in mind and heart where she is survived by her brother Charles and wife Judy Price. Bright-Holland Funeral Home has scheduled a graveside service at Evergreen Cemetery in Paris Texas at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 13th. The family will receive friends from 6 -7 p.m. Friday at Bright-Holland Funeral Home. She lost so many of her closest loved ones to cancer and was a long-term supporter of the American Cancer Society. In honor of her quest for a cure, please make donations in lieu of flowers.
