REVEREND KARL SUHR, 86, of Atlanta, Georgia was born February 1, 1931 in Savannah, Georgia a son of John and Theresa Suhr. He passed away peacefully on Friday, January 12, 2018 at Emory Hospital in Decatur. His family moved to Augusta, Georgia when he was young where he graduated from Richmond Academy. He went on to graduate from Newberry College in Newberry, South Carolina, where he served as senior class president and Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary in Columbia, South Carolina. In 1955 he married Anne Rhyne of Columbia and moved to Atlanta where he led the development of a mission church, Saint Matthew Lutheran Church. Ultimately, the congregation called him to serve as their pastor. He accepted and ended up spending his entire ministry at Saint Matthew, faithfully serving the Lord as a devoted disciple. Pastor Suhr was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years. He is survived by sister-in-law, Jean Rhyne of Columbia, South Carolina; two sons, a daughter and their spouses, Reverend Karl F. Suhr, Jr. and Joan B. Suhr of Little Mountain, South Carolina, Hugh R. and Emily H. Suhr of Decatur, Georgia, and Kris Anne and Phillip Zenoni of Marietta, Georgia, and six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. The service will be Monday, January 15 at 3 p.m. at The Lutheran Church of the Redeemer at 731 Peachtree St., NE, Atlanta, Georgia, the family will receive friends at 2 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Lutheran Church of the Redeemer Memorial Fund, or the Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary in Columbia, South Carolina. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, January 16 at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery in Little Mountain, South Carolina.
